10 Recent Movie Trailers That Spoiled WAY Too Much
9. Most Of The Movie - The Strangers: Chapter 1
Though The Strangers: Chapter 1 ultimately turned out to be a not-so-loose - and not-so-good - remake of the original 2008 slasher flick, Lionsgate marketed it instead as a "reimagining" of the hit horror franchise.
Yet anyone who watched its main trailer should've had a crystal-clear idea of precisely what the movie was, given that it's basically a two-and-a-half minute account of almost the entire plot, in turn confirming it to be a near-total facsimile of its inspiration.
The only thing it stops short of showing is the ultimate outcome for protagonists Maya (Madelaine Petsch) and Ryan (Froy Gutierrez), though if you've seen the original, you'll basically know exactly what to expect.
Now in fairness, few were expecting a Renny Harlin-directed Strangers movie to reinvent the wheel, but this trailer flat-out confirmed it to be a listless rehash without any fresh ideas of its own.
And yet it evidently sold itself to a new generation of horror fans successfully, given that The Strangers: Chapter 1 grossed over $40 million worldwide against a svelte $8.5 million budget.
Hopefully the two sequels, which were shot back-to-back with this one, might branch out and do something a tad more imaginative.
