10 Recent Movie Trailers That Totally Lied To You
6. The Gorge
It's almost impressive that despite the main trailer for The Gorge being over three minutes long, it doesn't give away one of the key tenets of the movie.
If you took the trailer at face value, Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller's protagonists Drasa and Levi - who are elite snipers stationed on opposite sides of a mysterious gorge - don't meet until Levi accidentally falls into the gorge and Drasa heads in to rescue him.
But that's not true at all.
Levi actually fashions a makeshift zipline and travels across the gorge to meet Drasa at the start of the movie's second act, and the two spend the next 15-or-so minutes of the movie hanging out together and eventually getting amorous.
It's only when Levi ziplines back to his side that disaster strikes, yet the trailer cheekily flips a shot of Levi ziplining back home to suggest that the zipline fails when he first attempts to head over to Drasa's side.
Ultimately this was a good choice, because the trailer wasn't misleading about The Gorge's tone or general content, but simply misrepresented images to ensure audiences still had something to be surprised by.
