10 Recent Movie Twists EVERYONE Predicted

Sci-fi coming-of-age comedy My Old Ass follows teenager Elliott (a brilliant Maisy Stella), who while tripping on drugs encounters her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza).

Amid their discussions, older Elliott warns younger Elliott to steer clear of her new love interest, Chad (Percy Hynes White), and as audience members, we're naturally inclined to believe that there's something very off about the guy - that perhaps he's abusive or cheats on Elliott in the future.

Yet this is implied heavily enough that many audience members likely realised they were being swerved. 

That is to say, the cruel third act twist reveals that Chad is a perfectly lovely dude, but he also ends up dying young, leaving Elliott traumatised and depressed in later adulthood.

Older Elliott wants her younger self to never become romantically entangled with Chad to spare her the future agony of his death, but ultimately, the younger Elliott decides to embark on the relationship anyway, surmising that the grief will be worth the years of joy they'll have together first.

Even if you didn't call every single beat of the ending, it was incredibly easy to guess that Chad actually wasn't some shady character and older Elliott's protests were motivated by his untimely demise. 

Yet it's also an affecting enough reveal that it's tough to complain about the predictability.
