10 Recent Movie Twists That Fell Totally Flat
8. Anders Is The Bomber - Retribution
Nobody would blame you for skipping out on Liam Neeson's most recent action-thriller dud Retribution, where he stars as Matt Turner, a financier who gets trapped in his car with his two children, as a caller informs him that the car will blow up if he attempts to get out.
The caller's digitally distorted voice makes it clear that audiences are in for a big reveal later on, and given that the only other major actor of note in the film is Matthew Modine, it's laughably easy for viewers to guess who might end up being the Big Bad.
Though the movie attempts to throw off suspicion by having Modine's character, Anders Muller, die in an apparent bombing, the fact that we don't see any sign of Muller's burning corpse, and the explosion happens just as a freight train conveniently passes by, makes it all immediately feel pretty fishy.
And so, when Muller unmasks in the film's climax to reveal that he was behind Turner's torment all along, it's met not with a gasp but a yawn.
