10 Recent Movie Twists That Fell Totally Flat

7. Giselle Is Still Alive - Fast X

Fast X certainly ended in head-scratching fashion, and not merely because of its jarring cliffhanger ending in which the lives of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his son Little B (Leo Abelo Perry) are left hanging in the balance.

After that, the movie drops an additional twist which didn't quite land with the triumphant pomp the filmmakers clearly expected.

Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Cipher (Charlize Theron), who have spent the bulk of the film trapped in an Antarctic prison, are rescued via submarine by none other than a back-from-the-dead Gisele (Gal Gadot).

First and foremost, it's patently absurd that Gisele survived her brutal fall from a plane at the end of the sixth movie.

Along with prior character resurrections, it proves that this franchise has no interest at all in establishing life-or-death stakes or making mortality matter, ironically ensuring nobody watching actually believes that Dom or his son might die either.

And secondly, the movie vastly overestimated how much the audience cares about Gisele or Gal Gadot.

Sure, Gadot is objectively a high-profile actress, but her role in the franchise was never particularly interesting, nor does she possess the star wattage to muster much excitement about her return.

This invited more groans than applause, and was then totally upstaged by the more invigorating mid-credits reveal that Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is also back in the mix.
