Oh, Uncharted. Continuing the long-standing tradition of most video game adaptations being trashed by critics, the Tom Holland-starring action-adventure flick settled at just 40% critical approval, with most reviewers criticising its generic plot, mediocre action, and miscast leads.

Audiences were far kinder to it, though, awarding Uncharted a strong 90% rating, while it also landed a rock solid "B+" CinemaScore.

Industry analysts have speculated that the large gulf of opinion between critics and audiences might speak to the pent-up demand for splashy, "fun" tentpole movies on the big screen, and of course there's the fact that Tom Holland appears to be far more of a draw than many expected.

Critics didn't like it, but average viewers seem to have vibed with its laid-back, undemanding tone and over-the-top action, no matter its blatant deviations from the source material.

This resulted in Uncharted overperforming in its opening weekend at the box office, ensuring that it will turn a profit and therefore making a sequel extremely likely.
