10 Recent Movies Critics Hated (But Audiences LOVED)
7. The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard
Critic Score: 27%
Audience Score: 79%
The Hitman's Bodyguard received wildly mixed reviews from critics back in 2017, scoring 44% with critics and a fair 69% from general punters.
The sequel, however, widened that critic-viewer disparity by more than double, with just 27% of critics reviewing it positively, while 79% of audience members considered it worthwhile.
Critics complained that The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard was basically just a tired rehash of a movie that wasn't that great the first time around, while also failing to take full advantage of its talented cast.
Audiences love Ryan Reynolds, though, and evidently had a lot more fun with its wacky action-comedy stylings, as well as the chemistry between Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek.
It ended up with a "B" CinemaScore, slightly below the original's "B+," but for a sequel that was loudly panned by most critics, a good result all things considered.
