Another big budget end of the world movie which has already started to look rather dated from a visual effects perspective is World War Z, the attempt at an epic zombie apocalypse movie designed to appeal to the PG-13 demographic. World War Z certainly had a turbulent production history and almost didn't make it to cinemas at all, which might not have been such a bad thing given that the final cut was a rather tepid affair which failed to make the most of Max Brooks's literary source material. The constant references to the WHO, UN and other real-world organizations is just one aspect where the plot will feel dated in a few years' time. Still, development issues didn't prevent World War Z from going on to be a huge hit at the cinema, even if the hordes of CGI zombies looked so obviously fake and more than a little silly.
