6. Plane

Hypnotic Ben Affleck
Lionsgate

Back when the first trailer for the Gerard Butler-starring action vehicle Plane dropped, the Internet couldn't get enough of its ridiculously minimalist, to-the-point title, which producer-star Butler actually fought to keep.

Nevertheless, on the face of things Plane seemed like a totally junky, forgettable action flick that'd score a cool 32% on Rotten Tomatoes, bomb at the box office, and be quietly forgotten in the streaming abyss.

What a shock it was, then, that Plane snagged an impressive 77% on the Tomatometer, grossed over $50 million worldwide, and further became a hit on streaming.

For a movie few had genuine, good-faith expectations for pre-release, this allowed the cast and crew to have the last laugh on, well, basically the entire Internet.

Furthermore, a sequel following Mike Colter's character, set on a ship and imaginatively entitled "Ship" - though sadly without Butler also starring, logic be-damned - is currently in development.
