10 Recent Movies That Grossly Overestimated What Their CGI Could Do

2. Justice League

Oh, Justice League. The movie's hellish production is well-documented by this point, and even though Warner Bros. ended up throwing $300 million at the superhero tentpole, it still turned out one of the most visually repulsive blockbusters of the last few years.

Where to begin? Even more so than Zack Snyder's previous DCEU movies, almost any scene involving a superhero feels aggressively superficial due to the excess of green-screen and digital touch-ups involved.

The film's finale in particular, with its comically fake red sky and PS3 render villain Steppenwolf, could easily pass for being about a decade old. The most egregious and widely-ridiculed VFX element, though, was the digital removal of Henry Cavill's moustache, which he was obligated to keep as Justice League's re-shoots clashed with principal photography on Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

Sadly the result is that Cavill's Superman frequently appears to have an uncanny valley mouth throughout the film, with the CGI lower-half of his jaw not aligning convincingly with the top half. The fact that the movie opens with cellphone footage of the Man of Steel's CGI gob is, frankly, asinine.

Cavill, to his credit, seemed to take the inevitable Internet memes in his stride, but moustache-gate proved an immense distraction in an already incredibly sloppy, deflating movie.

But at least Fallout and Cavill's finely-groomed moustache were awesome, right? Worth it.
