2. Zack Snyder's Justice League

The Tomorrow War
Warner Bros.

Though there was certainly much curiosity surrounding the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, who among us honestly expected it to be anything beyond a fascinating mess of a movie?

To many, a 242-minute Snyder film was the makings of an abject nightmare, and so it was nothing short of shocking to see the film receive predominantly positive reviews from critics, who lauded it for its ambitious scope and general redemption of the filmmaker's original vision.

Despite the obvious potential for it to go wrong so many different ways, the new iteration of Justice League restored the missing subplots and crucial character development which made Joss Whedon's 2017 studio-mandated version feel so empty and soulless.

Snyder's film isn't without its excesses and "quirks," if we're being kind, but it's also the work of a filmmaker with a vision, rather than a bean-counting studio desperate to recoup their bottom line.

That it was so thoroughly embraced by both critics and general audiences, with a few prominent reviewers even awarding it a full five stars, truly is an "Are we living in the Twilight Zone?" moment for anyone who followed the 2017 movie's tortured production.
