Even accepting that animated films often present an opportunity for uninterested A-listers to earn easy money for a weekend's worth of voiceover recording sessions, it's maddening just how much heavyweight talent was wasted in the aggressively forgettable The Garfield Movie.

Controversies over Chris Pratt's casting - or as it may be, miscasting - in the role of the iconic lasagna-loving feline aside, the rest of the cast was freakin' ridiculous, including Samuel L. Jackson (!), Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Snoop Dogg.

But even with the likes of Jackson and Waddingham in particular having extremely expressive voices, it's easy to tune out and forget about who's voicing who here, considering how utterly anodyne and character-bereft the entire thing is from a script level upwards.

With a stronger creative vision The Garfield Movie could've easily overcome Pratt's divisive casting, just as The Super Mario Bros. Movie did last year, but alas, it was nothing but an ATM machine for its wildly overqualified cast.
