10 Recent Movies That Wasted INCREDIBLE Casts
4. Damsel
Netflix's dark fantasy film Damsel is hardly awful, but it seems sacrilegious to settle for "forgettably mediocre" when you've got a cast led by Millie Bobby Brown that counts Hollywood royalty among its supporting players, namely Shohreh Aghdashloo, Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, and Ray Winstone.
Aghdashloo, Bassett, and Wright alone have three Oscar nominations and almost two-dozen Emmy nods between them, but do you even remember that they appeared in this beige slice of Watchable Content barely six months ago?
Brown certainly gives a capable performance in the lead role - and gets a nifty executive producer credit - but it's also dispiriting that a promising star vehicle with an incredible roster of veteran actors scrapes being... fine.
However, Damsel's lack of ambition didn't stop it from becoming the most-watched Netflix Original film of the year, so what do we know?
It evidently falls into that classic Netflix Original niche of serving a "good enough" result for an extremely broad swath of audiences even if few likely rated it highly - a sadly too-common goal in the modern, algorithm-driven filmmaking landscape.
