10 Recent 'Reboots' Of 80s/90s Classics (That Were Nowhere Near As Good As Jurassic World)

9. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008)

RottenTomatoes Score - 54% Compared To - Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981) - 96% Surprisingly, critics were and are still reasonably receptive to Indiana Jones' fourth adventure, as the 'All Critics' score on RottenTomatoes sits at a respectable 78%. Fans, however, who contribute to the 54% score cited above, were not best pleased by decisions such as the extensive focus on a teenage sidekick (Mutt Williams, played by Shia Labeouf), the use of CGI in the film's finale (despite the series' previous focus on stunt work) and an infamous scene where Jones avoids exposure to a nuclear explosion by hiding in a fridge. South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone even created an episode in response to the film where Jones is literally raped by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, which although extreme, epitomised how some felt about the treatment of a beloved icon of their childhood. After all, this was a character who had featured in epic world-sprawling adventures on three occasions in the eighties, fighting Nazis in both Raiders Of The Lost Ark and The Last Crusade and Indian cultists in Temple Of Doom. Despite the supernatural elements that already existed within these, the use of aliens as the main plot point in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull didn't quite fit the mould. In subsequent years, Spielberg has even accepted criticism of the film and pointed the finger at Lucas for its story. Whether they'll again collaborate on a fifth adventure remains to be seen, though the internet community certainly seems up for this, particularly if Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris Pratt is involved as Harrison Ford's successor.
