10 Recent 'Reboots' Of 80s/90s Classics (That Were Nowhere Near As Good As Jurassic World)

4. A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)

RottenTomatoes Score - 44% Compared To - A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) - 83% Like many of his compatriots in the horror genre, Freddy Krueger was once a bone-chilling villain that incited terror amongst audiences. Much like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, however, he was diluted over time as his iconic status was cashed in upon over and over again through a seemingly never-ending array of farcical sequels that saw him become akin to a sitcom lead, given the increasing number of cheesy one-liners he was assigned by scriptwriters. Regardless of how the character is perceived today, his debut in Wes Craven's highly imaginative A Nightmare On Elm Street is a sight to behold, as he maniacally pursues the obligatory 'final girl' (albeit before it became a ridiculously overdone trope) Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) through her dreams, racking up a body count that includes a young Johnny Depp along the way. Arguably, too much damage had been done by the aforementioned farcical sequels when a 'serious' reboot was commissioned for 2010. On paper, Jackie Earle Haley was a good fit for the Krueger role, given his reputation for playing characters with a creepy demeanour, but his take on the villain paled in comparison to Robert Englund at his best and the franchise has remained dormant since.
