10 Recent 'Reboots' Of 80s/90s Classics (That Were Nowhere Near As Good As Jurassic World)
5. Conan The Barbarian (2011)
RottenTomatoes Score - 30% Compared To - Conan The Barbarian (1982) - 74% One of the first entries in Arnold Schwarzenegger's back catalogue of films was Conan The Barbarian back in 1982. Though his 'acting' has never been his strong point, it got noticeably better after his performance in this, where it is clear that his casting was purely down his physique, just two years after winning his final Mr. Olympia title. Regardless, the fantasy film was more popular than it had any right to be upon its release, with supporting turns from established actors such as James Earl Jones, Max von Sydow and Mako helping to bring the fantasy world of Hyboria to life. When the decision was made to bring back the character and make a new film in 2010, Jason Momoa was best known for appearing in Stargate: Atlantis. When the film was released in 2011, he was fresh from his turn on the first season of Game of Thrones, where by complete coincidence his character, Khal Drogo, was a warlord of the barbaric Dothraki race. Expectations were relatively high as a result, as he had proven himself more than capable of adding heart to what could've been a one dimensional role. Sadly, the new Conan was fairly one dimensional, regardless of Momoa's physical suitability for the titular role. The rebooted film received almost universally negative reviews, with particular criticism aimed at the films special effects and shallow characters.
