10 Recently Announced Movies That Will Probably Never Happen
9. Rogue Squadron
Late last year, Disney announced that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins had been hired to helm Rogue Squadron, the third entry into the Star Wars anthology series (after Rogue One and Solo).
The film is set to focus on a new generation of starfighter pilots while drawing extensively from both the Rogue Squadron video games and books.
Matthew Robinson (Love and Monsters) has been tapped to pen the script, with the release fast-tracked for December 22, 2023.
However, mere weeks ago it was announced that Rogue Squadron has been removed from Disney's schedule and production delayed, reportedly due to Jenkins' schedule - possibly to accomodate her work on a third Wonder Woman film.
While no new release date has yet been announced, it's looking increasingly unlikely that the effects-heavy film will meet its current date two years from now, especially if Jenkins is indeed pressing on with Wonder Woman 3.
Many commentators have also floated the distinct possibility that Rogue Squadron has effectively just entered development hell, amid rumours that the real cause for the delay was "creative differences" between Jenkins and producers.
Between the unexpectedly lukewarm response to Wonder Woman 1984 and Jenkins having far more creative control over Wonder Woman than Star Wars, it's easy to envision a future where Rogue Squadron is quietly cancelled as everyone moves on to other projects.
