10 Remakes Of Classic '80s Movies That Bombed Terribly

8. Endless Love

The Thing
Universal Pictures

The Original: Tom Cruise and James Spader made their respective movie debuts in this tedious tale of a teenage romance, and they certainly went on the better careers than the “stars” of this snoozefest. In the lead, Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt don’t exactly rival our memories of Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting in director Franco Zeffirelli’s earlier Romeo & Juliet.

The Remake: Updated for the Nicholas Sparks crowd, this new version stars Gabriella Wilde and Alex Pettyfer as the star-crossed lovers, and very bland and inoffensive it is too. Whereas the original was trashy enough to be offensive, this PG-13 revamp is so sanitised and emotionally distant that after a while you begin to wonder if you’re watching a movie or a 2 hour long commercial.

This “endless” movie failed to set box office records, making only $34 million worldwide.
