10 Remakes That Totally Outshone The Original
4. Battlestar Galactica (2000s)
The original Battlestar Galactica began as a television movie in 1978. Its ensuing television series became a phenomenon at the time, though its run was ultimately cut short due to its high budget. For many looking back, the story about the apparently last surviving humans travelling through space after a robot rebellion is rather corny, but still endearing.
Corny was decidedly not the goal in 2003 when what was then the Sci-Fi Channel aired a two-part update. Much of the early attention surrounded changes in gender when it came to Starbuck, ethnicity when it came to Tigh or both when it came to Boomer. There was also a lot of skepticism about the darker tone.
Then it actually aired. So popular was it that it turned into a regular series that spun off three tv movies and a prequel series. The new version included stories on politics, faith, morality and just how desolate life would probably be for survivors of an apocalyptic event stranded in the dark, cold vastness of space.
It has often been cited as the greatest science fiction series ever and one of the greatest of any genre period.
