10 Ridiculous Comic Book Castings (That Actually Totally Worked)
3. Laurence Fishburne - Perry White (Man Of Steel)
Why It Was Ridiculous: Many comic book fans were up in arms that Perry White was to be played by a black man in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, because the guy's white, and even his name has the word "white" in it. Much like the controversies surrounding Idris Elba's casting as Heimdall in Thor and Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin in Daredevil, it came down to one side wanting the movie to reflect the comic book's character's basic attributes, and the other side not-so-subtly accusing the haters of being racist. The Result: It's fair enough for comic book fans to want a character to be the race that they're drawn as in the comics, but the colour of Perry White's skin is never endemic to him as a person: this isn't like a pasty white guy playing Black Panther or something. They picked Laurence Fishburne, a fantastic actor in his own right, and though he doesn't get a whole lot of screen time in Man of Steel, his performance very much fits in with the Perry White I've always imagined, regardless of the colour of his skin.
