10 Ridiculous Comic Book Castings (That Actually Totally Worked)
4. Jim Carrey - The Riddler (Batman Forever)
Why It Was Ridiculous: Because the star of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber is going to play one of Batman's most famous enemies. How does this make sense in any universe or path of logic? Carrey may be an excellent funnyman, but playing the super-smart Riddler just seemed well out of his range. The Result: Many are going to disagree here, but given the kooky tone Joel Schumacher was shooting for, Jim Carrey turned out to be a perfect choice for what the movie needed The Riddler to be: an out of control, theatrical evil genius who was camped up to the nines. Carrey threw himself into the role, delivering a wildly entertaining performance that might look even more daft in light of Christopher Nolan's Batman films, but within the scope of Schumacher's work, it fits like a glove.
