10 Ridiculous Movie Controversies That Went Nowhere

9. Cassie Lang's Recasting - Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has had to fend off several unfortunate headlines both prior to and since its release - including the fact it's just not very good - and the silliest of the lot? Cassie Lang's recasting.

We were first introduced to a grown-up Cassie Lang in Avengers: Endgame, where she was played in cameo form by Emma Fuhrmann, but for Quantumania the decision was made to replace her with Kathryn Newton.

Once a disappointed Fuhrmann revealed that she only learned about the recast when the information was made public - an admittedly unfortunate PR gaffe on Marvel Studios' part - her fans circled the wagons and demanded that Marvel give her the role back.

Of course this didn't happen, and while it's never been officially stated why Fuhrmann was replaced, it's almost certainly because Newton is a much higher-profile actress who Marvel wanted to get into business with.

Ultimately Newton was broadly praised for her performance as Cassie in Quantumania, no matter the film's many problems elsewhere.

It's a raw deal for Fuhrmann, no question, but such is the ruthless nature of Hollywood.
