7. Khan's Magic Blood - Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek Into Darkness was a snappily-paced, entertaining follow-up to the spectacular reboot, even if it didn't manage to reach the same highs, and it truly starts to lose its footing near the end with one indulgence too far. The shocking scene in Star Trek Into Darkness should be when it appears that Kirk is about to die in the radiation chamber, sharing a tender moment with Spock prior, but of course, John Harrison aka Khan is a super-soldier with what is essentially "magic blood" capable of reviving any dead living thing. After a tribble awakens after being injected with this blood, it is used on Kirk, and miraculously, he comes back to life. It's supposed to be a grand emotional moment, but it rings hollow for two reasons: a) we all know Kirk isn't going to die b) using Khan's blood as some sort of all-catch healer is just lazy, and not very well thought-out given the implications it has for the rest of the universe. It's shocking, just not in the way JJ Abrams would have liked.
