10 Ridiculous Movie Moments That Have Shocked Us In 2013 So Far

3. The Friend Was A Ghost The Whole Time - Safe Haven

Safe Haven A contender for the worst plot twist of all time is the horrendous Nicholas Sparks adaptation Safe Haven, which for most of its run-time is an adequately schmaltzy affair with beautiful actors and lovely scenery. It truly becomes intolerable at the climax, though, when Cobie Smulders' character, who has been friends with Julianne Hough for the whole movie, reveals that she is the dead wife of Josh Duhamel, who Hough has been hooking up with. Apparently, Smulders reveals her identity so that her husband can move on with Hough, but all it elicited at the press screening I attended was uproarious laughter. To field out this twist in the final two minutes of the film, no less, is a poor act of directorial judgement; it seems wildly forced into the script, and we're given no time to even process it before the credits roll. Needless to say, the film was almost universally panned.
