Here we go. This is the worst decision that Oscar ever made. Many of the blunders on this list have involved maybe two or three different parties, but this one includes almost the whole category. I dont know what the Academy voters were thinking this year, but they passed up three legitimate movie classics to award Sylvester Stallones and John G. Avildsens feel-good but massively overrated underdog story. What else was nominated? How about Martin Scorseses momentous Taxi Driver, Sidney Lumets prophetic Network, and Alan J. Pakulas illuminating All the Presidents Men? The complete and utter lack of both present-sight and foresight by Academy voters is mind-boggling to this day. The only explanation that makes any sense is that the vote-splitting between those three truly great films allowed Rocky to sneak in a take the prize. This unfortunate result was truly a shame because any one of the other three would have made a fantastic addition to the historic list of Best Picture winners. Thats it, the worst Oscar blunders ever. What did I miss? Are there other bungles that merit a mention?
