10 Most Ridiculous Oscar Blunders Ever

2. Alfred Hitchcock Never Wins an Oscar for Best Director

This Oscar blunder is so infuriating that I couldn€™t narrow it down to just one year. Alfred Hitchcock was arguably the best director of all time, yet the Academy never saw fit to give him an Oscar for Best Director. In fact, he was only nominated five times for Rebecca, Lifeboat, Spellbound, Rear Window, and Psycho. These are some of the classic films for which he was not even nominated: The 39 Steps, Notorious, Rope, Strangers on a Train, Dial M for Murder, The Birds, and perhaps the most outrageous of all, Vertigo. As you can see, the Academy voters had a serious Hitchcock voting issue. Perhaps the genre of suspense was simply not taken seriously by many members of the voting body. The sheer volume of films that Hitchcock was not recognised for is truly staggering. To make matters worse, Oscar bestowed an honorary award upon Hitchcock in 1968, but this only magnified their many previous errors. The €œMaster of Suspense€ never won a competitive Oscar, and he showed his contempt with the shortest Oscar speech ever €“ 'thank you... very much indeed.'
