10 Most Ridiculous Oscar Blunders Ever

3. Ordinary People Beats Raging Bull (1980)

We could just make a separate list with how many times the Oscars have robbed Martin Scorsese. In addition to Robert Redford beating out Marty for the Best Director statue this year, Ordinary People somehow captured the attention of enough voters to award it the Best Picture prize over the monumental black and white slugfest that is Raging Bull, which many consider to be Scorsese€™s best film. This Oscar race never ceases to baffle me. I suppose the Academy was impressed by a successful actor€™s transition to the director€™s chair, but that certainly doesn€™t justify this result. Raging Bull is an incredible film that pulls no punches and features an astounding transformative (and Oscar winning) performance by Robert De Niro. Ordinary People is pretty standard Oscar bait that features the breakdown of a family after a tragedy. Whatever the reason for the snub, this category is a significant misstep in the annals of Oscar history.
