10 Ridiculous Reasons Why Oscar Voters Picked Their Winners

7. Best Film Editing Goes To Captain Phillips Because One Voter Is Friends With The Editor

It's a surprise Captain Phillips won no Oscars at all in 2014, because everyone who was voting seemed to be friends with someone who worked on that film. One public relations voter had a lot of love for the "great" Captain Phillips, singling it out as one of their favourites of the year and nominating it for Best Editing, before going on to reveal they almost nominated it for Best Adapted Screenplay just because "I know a lot of people who were involved with that film." Best of all, though, is the member of the Academy's sound branch, who had no problem with admitting the totally legitimate reason why he'd chosen Captain Phillips for Best Film Editing: "One of my dear friends is the editor of Captain Phillips, so how do you think I voted?" Classy.
