10 Ridiculous Stories Behind 2019 Movies
6. Joaquin Walks - Joker
It's safe to say that few movie villains quite stack up against the Joker. So it's no wonder that every actor's portrayal usually makes them display insane levels of commitment. And although it doesn't always work, the lengths they go to helps them at least bring something new to the character.
Joaquin Phoenix, arguably quite intense on set to begin with, certainly doesn't stray away from this trend. While it worked beautifully, fully presenting the tragic ease in which a man can slowly descend into madness, the road to reach the depths of such a performance did produce a few... awkward moments.
As the film essentially lived and died by Phoenix's performance, director Todd Phillips gave him a lot of room for him to breathe and shape his version of Joker. This would often extend to him being able to leave the set if he wasn't "feeling it", causing quite a few nervous exchanges.
Previously just talked about in interviews, footage of such a walkout was recently shown on the Jimmy Kinmel show (about 8 minutes into the video), much to Phoenix's discomfort. Though it was later played off as a joke, it does show just how intense making these films can be.
