10 Ridiculous Times Horror Movie Franchises Jumped The Shark

2. Child's Play - Doll Sex

The original Child's Play is a genuinely tense and frightening movie, and Tom Holland mines all the terror possible out of the killer doll premise. Chucky has a foul mouth which results in some moments of dark comedy, but never is the movie really intentionally silly.

For the most part, that was the case with the first two sequels as well. You might occasionally laugh at how brutal the deaths are, but the films are pretty much played straight. There aren't any actual jokes in there. After Child's Play 3, Don Mancini apparently just got bored and decided to turn the franchise into a comedy series. Bride of Chucky is over the top goofy, with Chucky constantly cracking jokes and fighting with his doll wife.

Even in that movie there were some occasional moments of horror, but you can pinpoint the exact moment the series was completely lost: the end of the film where Chucky and Tiffany have a baby. They actually follow up on that in Seed of Chucky, and now this series that was once scary is about two dolls who had doll sex and gave birth to a doll baby. If you're into jokes involving dolls peeing themselves, you're in for a treat.

It started in horror, slowly began dipping its toes into comedy, and then by the time doll sex was a real plot point, they had past the point of no return.
