10 Ridiculously Expensive Movies That Blew Their Budget

3. Evan Almighty

Evan AlmightyBudget: $175 million What We Got: The most expensive comedy film of all time...and also one that was completely forgettable. After the first film grossed $484 million on a $81 million budget, clearly the only smart thing to do was amass a budget over double the original movie and assume the cash would come rolling in, regardless of how necessary or well thought-out the movie was. The spiraling costs were largely attributed to the ambition of the project and the ark at its center, requiring set building, visual effects work, and animal wrangling that proved extremely awkward. Factoring in marketing costs, the film is estimated to have cost a total of around $200 million, and these financial problems convinced Sony to eventually give the project to Universal Studios. Whoever handled it, the result was an utterly forgettable, critically panned "comedy" that didn't even make its budget back.
