10 Ridiculously Expensive Movies That Blew Their Budget

4. The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-ManBudget: $230 million What We Got: A quasi-retread of the $140 million Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie released barely a decade before. Why take so much money and essentially just lazily re-tell the origin story that's still fresh in our minds? It's not just crass and cynical, but it's also a waste of money; why simply copy what came before, when the origin story could have been told in an opening montage sequence, and that money could have been better spent on establishing a new villain and some set-pieces, rather than the malnourished, lame Lizard baddie we got? While I firmly expect that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be vastly superior with its groundwork laid, Sony blew it the first time around, even if they did market the film well enough to dupe audiences to the tune of $752 million.
