10 Ridiculously Good Decisions Which Saved Your Favourite Movies

1. MCU - Casting Robert Downey Jr

Today we see Robert Downey Jr as one of Hollywood's biggest stars, a successful and talented actor, and the living embodiment of the MCU. It was not always the case however; His casting as the leading man of the MCU was actually an extremely controversial decision.

Downey had a long battle with drug addiction and a series of arrests in the years before Ironman, but Jon Favreau saw something that no one else did. He saw the leading man of the most ambitious film project in movie history, and despite intense resistance he pushed hard for the casting. There was so much opposition that Downey was paid $500'000, a fraction of co star Terrence Howard's $3.5m paycheck.

12 years later and the entire world can clearly see they made the right decision, Downey carried the franchise from humble beginnings to epic conclusion. His own shaky start and eventual overcoming of his demons mirrors that of Tony Stark, he IS Ironman. Who knows where the MCU might be without his charisma to make Ironman what it was, but one things for sure, it likely wouldn't be the multi billion dollar box office monster it is today.
