10 Ridiculously Overhated Recent Movies

1. Mulan

Mulan (2020) is quite possibly the most unfairly hated Hollywood blockbuster of the decade so far. It did get mixed-to-positive reviews from critics - a fair reflection of its quality - but it got absolutely savaged by fans of the original.

Why? Well, to call Mulan a remake of the beloved 1998 animation is pretty misleading, as this film almost entirely deviates from it. It takes the premise and does something completely different. This is why Mulan is better than most Disney remakes.

Instead of slavishly copying the original and telling, in live-action, a story that is far better-suited to animation like most of the other remakes have, Mulan carves out its own identity and it feels like there's some real imagination to it.

It's hard to imagine anyone denying that the animated film is superior in most ways, but Mulan is still an absolutely solid movie on the whole. The script is hit-or-miss, but the skilled cast, beautiful visuals and thrilling action make this a thoroughly entertaining martial arts action flick that also has some very heartfelt moments up its sleeve.

The film deserves criticism for its cultural inaccuracies, but to attack it from being so different from the original is completely ridiculous. It was clearly designed as a reimagining, not a straight retelling.
