10 Ridiculously Overhated Recent Movies

9. Shazam: Fury Of The Gods

It's interesting to compare Shazam: Fury of the Gods and its critical reception to various other relatively recent superhero movies. Specifically, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and The Flash.

Shazam 2 is comfortably superior to all six of those very weak superhero flicks... and they all got generally positive critical reviews, while Shazam 2 got very mixed reviews and a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. That really doesn't seem very fair at all.

That's not to imply for one moment that Shazam 2 is anything great or even especially memorable, but for a sequel that no-one was hankering for, it really is perfectly fine. Although the script is messy, this does still benefit enormously from plenty of effective humour, rock-solid action, an interesting trio of villains and the refined efforts of a very engaging cast.

It is a genuinely fun, occasionally clever superhero flick that is superior to many films in its franchise and nearly everything that Marvel has put out in the last few years, so people were far too mean to it.
