10 Ridiculously Overhated Recent Movies

M. Night Shyamalan's Old got very mixed reviews, and that doesn't seem very fair at all; it's arguable that this is a slightly better film than Signs, The Visit, and Split (three other very solid Shyamalan joints), and those three all received generally positive reviews, so why not this one?

To be fair to critics, the dialogue in Old is pretty bad; good dialogue has never been Shyamalan's strongest suit. As well as this, there are logic gaps and the acting is a mixed bag, but what about all the things that it does right?

What about the consistently great cinematography, the horrifyingly brilliant central premise, the thoroughly satisfying twist ending, and the many scenes of potent, often stomach-churning supernatural horror that the movie delivers? The film really deserves praise for all of those things, and it deserves to be remembered as one of M. Night Shyamalan's finest films.

Thankfully though, Shyamalan's next picture - 2023's legitimately awesome Knock at the Cabin - got the positive reviews it deserved, so that's something.
