8. Broughton Castle

If you're shooting a period film in the UK - specifically a costume drama - there's a very good chance you'll end up at Broughton Castle, which stakes the claim to playing host to countless acclaimed movies over the years, perhaps most notably the Best Picture-winning Shakespeare In Love. The most notable scene of the film shot here is when Joseph Fiennes is spying on Gwyneth Paltrow and ends up being chased away by guard dogs (coincidentally, Fiennes is related to the family who actually reside in the castle).

Other pictures to have been shot here include The Scarlet Pimpernel, Nigel Hawthorne's excellent The Madness of King George, Lady Jane, as well as countless BBC TV episodes. Oh, and exterior establishing shots were even used in Three Men and a Little Lady of all films...
