6. Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle started out life as a medieval fortress, though is nowadays better known as setting the scenes for several famous movie productions. Up until 2000, the location was used sporadically to film the likes of Becket, Ivanhoe, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Elizabeth, though was more prominently used for TV.

However, the Castle saw itself become a movie star once production geared up on the Harry Potter movie adaptations, which used Alnwick as the location for both the exterior and interior shooting of Hogwarts. Likely as a result of this publicity, Ridley Scott also filmed portions of his Robin Hood movie there, and after this alongside the 8 momentously successful Harry Potter films shot there, it's safe to say that Alnwick Castle is well-cemented into the annals of film history. But can we please not shoot anymore fantasy films or epics here? Be imaginative, location scouts!
