Pointless Because: Betty Ross is a classic character from the lore of The Incredible Hulk, sure, but her usefulness is all used up once Bruce Banner makes his way into The Avengers. In Whedon's film, Betty has zero presence (much like Thor's Jane and Captain America's Peggy), which wouldn't seem to be a problem at first, except for the fact that we've been told not to expect a standalone Hulk film any time soon if at all. So all of that relationship build-up was basically for nought beyond the confines of the Ed Norton-starring film. Banner leaves New York at the end of The Incredible Hulk, with the implication being that he and Betty will reconnect some point down the line, which due to the nixing of a Hulk sequel may now be completely abandoned. And then there's the relatively mixed reaction to Liv Tyler's portrayal of the character... How To Fix It: Though it risks ruining the novelty factor that the Hulk can bring to the MCU, making another standalone Hulk film isn't a bad idea, or perhaps give Betty a cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's fair to say that the latter isn't too high up on anyone's wish list, but with the countless rumours over the years of various Hulk sequel projects, it's surely one that would find an audience in light of his show-stealing role in The Avengers. He certainly helped contribute to that $1.5 billion box office total, and seeing him again on his own would undoubtedly be financially lucrative.
