10 Ridiculously Underrated Movie Remakes Everyone Must Watch

6. Cape Fear

The Italian Job 2003
Universal Pictures

Cape Fear may be the only remake on this list which has its own underrated remake... Sort of.

Released in 1991, Mean Streets helmer/ bane of Marvel fans' collective existence Martine Scorsese’s peerlessly intense slow burn thriller updates the Gregory Peck starring sixties original.

The story of an obsessive criminal who stalks the family of the man who put him behind bars, this grimy and chilling flick combines the trashy appeal of then-popular slasher cinema with the highbrow addition of Robert de Niro in prime villain mode and Scorsese's most tense, claustrophobic direction.

But the film's best quality is inspiring the loose remake (okay, spoof) Cape Feare, an episode of The Simpsons dedicated to re-enacting this flick which remains one of the family's funniest outings.
