4. Dolly Dearest

Child's Play Dolly Dearest
Trimark Pictures

The "Dolly" in question in this entry is a murderous toy doll.

It is not Dolly Parton, although a stabbing montage set to Jolene would be something to see.

An archaeologist working in Mexico accidentally opens a sarcophagus containing the malevolent spirit of Sanzia, an antichrist-type. The spirit escapes its tomb and takes the vessel of a Dolly Dearest toy, which is later picked up by a young girl.

Whilst it's not quite a serial killer transferring his soul to a children's doll, Dolly Dearest is closer to Child's Play that perhaps it should be.

Chucky's first big screen outing inspired many a knock-off killer doll film, but Dolly Dearest really takes the biscuit when it comes to stepping on the redhead's toes. She even copped his signature weapon of a large kitchen knife!

Dolly Dearest is a weak adaptation of its source material, bringing absolutely nothing to the party that we hadn't already seen three years earlier with Child's Play. But hey, maybe the two could have a crossover one day?

Who knows, maybe Dolly could make a nice bride for Chucky? Wait a second, that's already been done...
