Why steal from one classic sci-fi horror, when you can steal from two?

Creature, as you may have guessed from the title and the sight of the antagonist, is Alien with a Malibu Stacy-style hat. An extra-terrestrial hatches from an egg and maliciously hunts down the crew of a spaceship.

The production team might as well have hired an actor called "Wigourney Seaver" to play the lead role, it was that obvious.

But there's something else that this film is borrowing from.

Some-"Thing".

Other than ripping people apart with its sharp teeth and passing for a Xenomorph at a distance, the creature in Creature has the ability to control the crew members using parasitic attachments.

This injects a "who can you trust?" element into the movie that is not a million miles away from The Thing. In fact, it's not even ten miles away from The Thing. It's about two.

By smooshing together two beloved movies, Creature ended up far less than the sum of its parts. However, in a strange twist of fate, a man named Robert Skotak worked on the special effects for this film.

One year later, he won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects for his work on... Aliens.

Coincidence? Yeah, probably.
