Attracting the attention of casting directors via a series of videos uploaded to Youtube when only fourteen years old, OBrien eventually parlayed that success into his first role, the comic sidekick to the hero of MTVs television adaptation of the Teen Wolf property. The show would unexpectedly become a significant hit, and OBriens perfectly judged performance as the fast-talking, neurotic best friend Stiles became one of the major attractions for many fans. Roles in unsuccessful films like The First Time (with future girlfriend, Tomorrowlands Britt Robertson) and The Internship (with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson) would follow, but it would be the cinematic adaptation of James Dashners young adult novel The Maze Runner that would be the turning point for OBrien: the film was a major success, turning over $340million at the box office against a small budget of less than $35million, guaranteeing the rest of the franchise would see the big screen. More than that, The Maze Runner received almost universal praise, with OBriens performance once again singled out as one to watch. As well as the sequel to that movie, OBrien can be seen next year in Deepwater Horizon, the Peter Berg directed true story of the worst oil spill in US history, alongside Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson and John Malkovich. At only twenty-three years old, consistently the best thing in every project he has a hand in, and with an eerie resemblance to movie icon River Phoenix, if Dylan OBrien isnt the New King Of Hollywood by the time hes thirty then the Illuminati will have invested all that money on his throne of skulls for nothing.
