5. Davie Bowie - The Last Temptation of Christ
David Bowie is one of the greatest artists of all time (just ask Rolling Stone who dubbed him 39th on their list with the same name in 2004). He is one of those rock stars who was able to successfully cross over into acting without much gruff from the critics and the audience alike. He tends to gravitate towards flamboyant roles such as the king of goblins in Labyrinth, to Andy Warhol in Basquiat and Nikola Tesla in Nolan's The Prestige. His essence and energy from his glam rock persona seeps in to the roles he takes (Hello, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me) so his cameo is somewhat surprising in Scorsese's controversial film, The Last Temptation of Christ. Bowie plays Pontius Pilate (which in earlier talks, Sting was to be cast in the role) donning a rice bowl haircut and a toga. His performance is so scaled back that you can hardly believe that this is the same man who is also known as Ziggy Stardust. However, if you look closely, you can see a hint of that David Bowieness when he points to Willem Dafoe's Jesus.
