10 'Rotten' Films That Will Eventually Be Viewed As Classics

2. The Fountain

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 51% Why It'll Be Re-Assessed As A Classic: Like Dead Man's Shoes, The Fountain already is considered a classic in some quarters, what with it having a cult following and all. Like so many on this list, The Fountain divided critics during its theatrical bow - it's a Darren Aronofsky film, they tend to do that - but its critical standing has now been elevated to the point where Time magazine recently named it as one of the Top 5 Underrated Sci-Fi Movies. There is, frankly, no other film quite like The Fountain, which is what makes it so uniquely fascinating. It's a treatise on life and death drawn like a beautiful graphic novel, one touching on manifold themes and drawing on numerous religious and spiritual beliefs. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz meet with the difficult task of playing three different roles each across three different timelines, and nail it; it's one of Jackman's better performances, while it's business as usual for Oscar winner Weisz. Aronofsky's film is a glittering achievement - the visuals alone earn it classic status.
