10 Russian Horror Movies You Need To See
6. Rassvet (2019)
Lucid dreaming. Sounds incredible, right? For anyone who suffers from nightmares (or even just really boring dreams), the ability to control your thoughts and actions is quite alluring. After watching the 2019 horror-thriller film Rassvet (or Quiet Comes the Dawn in English), though, you might think twice.
Directed by Pavel Sidorov, Quiet Comes the Dawn followed a woman named Svetlana’s life after her brother died under peculiar circumstances. Haunted in her dreams, Svetlana became desperate for any sort of help and ultimately turned to the Institute of Somnology.
During her time with the institute, the concept of lucid dreaming piqued her interest, leading her to engage in a group study. Although she and the other participants were under the impression they would explore some kind of psychological utopia, they found themselves prisoners to the most hellish landscape they'd ever encountered.
Quiet Comes the Dawn didn't break ground in terms of storytelling, as it was predictable at times, but it's a horror flick worth the watch, especially if you're into high visual scares and intense special effects. It's a horror film that spent less time providing an original story and more time exploring it a familiar one on a much deeper (and more visual) level.
