10 Russian Horror Movies You Need To See
5. Zeit Der Finsternis Time Of Darkness (1991)
In Zeit Der Finsternis (aka Time of Darkness in English), a Christian preacher named Father Agafangel arrived in Russia as paganism was at an all-time high. To combat the chaos, he vowed to aggressively enforce a "new order" on modern Russia. Trying to deter the locals from the upcoming festivals, he promised that the eternal flames of Hell would forever burn anyone who took part in them. Alas, he soon lost control of the situation when mysterious crimes arose and drew the attention of top investigators.
The historical influences on Time of Darkness were part of what made the film's narrative unique, but what the movie was perhaps better known for were its sharp visuals.
You won't need much of an imagination when watching Time of Darkness. In fact, you might wish yours would turn off altogether. The film not only gave viewers an in-depth look at some of the pagan rituals, but it also made sure to close in on everything macabre, including extremely graphic images of corpses.
If you personally enjoy being psychologically scarred, then this horror piece is definitely for you. Of course, the overall plotline of Time of Darkness can still be enjoyed by some of the more squeamish audiences, although it might be necessary to have someone on the look-out, ready to let you know when it's best to close your eyes.
