10 Sacred Films That Should Never Be Remade

1. The Lord Of The Rings

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy came at the perfect time. Peter Jackson had a vision for the films, and he shot the entire series €“ save for a few pick-up shots €“ over 274 days in one big block. This audacious plan won the trilogy a record-breaking 17 Academy Awards. You couldn€™t repeat that trick. You just couldn€™t. In fact, when Peter Jackson tried to, with The Hobbit prequel films, he ended up with three movies that didn€™t stand up to the originals. Splitting the book into three novels and overindulging in CGI meant that The Hobbit didn€™t succeed on quite the same level as The Lord Of The Rings. If Lord Of The Rings was ever made again, it would surely go the same way. Too much modern CGI would spoil it, but an attempt to directly reshoot the original would just seem pointless. And the cast have become so synonymous with their characters that any other portrayals of the likes of Frodo, Gandalf and Gollum would just feel weird. We€™re sure New Line will consider it one day, but a Lord Of The Rings remake truly wouldn€™t work. Which movies would you hate to see remade? Let us know in the comments...
