Monster movies are typically more commonly associated with the building-smashing monstrosities that populated the majority of 50s and 60s B-Movies as contemporary cinema has steered more towards ghosts and supernatural spooks. However, within the last few years, the creature feature has found a new lease of life, with one of the best being A Quiet Place.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world following an alien invasion where horrifying creatures will gobble you up if they hear you making the slightest sound, this sense-ational horror followed the Abott family as they forged a new, silent life for themselves.

While the film opens with the harrowing death of the family's youngest son - who gets snatched by the aforementioned monsters - the most heart-breaking moment goes to father Lee's (John Krasinki) self-sacrifice to save his remaining two children during a climatic encounter with one of the aliens.

Using only sign language, Krasinski carries so much emotional weight in his final farewell to his children. But it's the raw and pained scream he uses to get the creature's attention to allow the siblings to escape, dooming himself in the process, where his death hits hardest.
