10 Saddest Horror Movie Moments
8. THAT Scene - The Mist
This scene has made the rounds on so many lists like this one and is notorious enough to stand on its own reputation - and yet I’m gonna bring it in anyway. I’m sure there are trolls out there who insist it isn’t that bad, but since when have we ever listened to edgy fourteen-year olds? Fools I say.
The scene in question, if you’ve lived under a rock for the last ten years, comes right at the end of the film. Having escaped the supermarket but not the nasty creatures lurking in the mist, protagonist David and co realise it is far better to die a quick and easy death rather than one of prolonged pain. David, in a heroic act, shoots his group. Oh, and his son! Not only is that hard enough to watch on its own, it only gets worse from there.
David has no bullets left for himself and decides to sacrifice himself to the creatures. Yet as soon as he leaves the car, the army drives past and the mist clears! Not only is the shooting of a child really hard to watch, even Stephen King found the final shots horrible - you know it’s bad if even he finds it upsetting!!
